SHOREWOOD MEN’S CLUB

OBJECTIVES OF THE SHOREWOOD MEN’S CLUB:

  1.        TO PROMOTE CIVIC SPIRIT AND INTEREST IN THE WELFARE OF SHOREWOOD AS AN OUTSTANDING SUBURBAN COMMUNITY DEDICATED TO GOOD HOME LIFE AND HIGH STANDARDS OF CULTURE AND EDUCATION.

  2.        TO PROMOTE FELLOWSHIP AND SERVICE THROUGH PROVISIONS OF ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN PROJECTS WHICH SERVE    THE INTERESTS OF SHOREWOOD AND THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE CLUB.

  3.        TO FOSTER COOPERATION AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR WORKING TOGETHER AMONG THE CIVIC AND SERVICE GROUPS IN THE VILLAGE OF SHOREWOOD.

  4.         TO COOPERATE WITH ALL GROUPS AND LOCAL AGENCIES IN CHARITY EFFORT AND TO SUPPORT SUCH SPECIAL CHARITIES AS MAY BE APPROVED BY THE MEMBERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CLUB.

 

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I

NAME

Section 1.                The name of this organization shall be “ The Shorewood Men’s Club, Inc.”

  ARTICLE II

OBJECTIVES

Section 1.                The objectives of the Club shall be: -

To promote civic spirit and interest in the welfare of Shorewood as an outstanding suburban community dedicated to good home life, high standards of culture and education.

To promote fellowship and service through provisions of active participation and projects which serve the interest of Shorewood and the Membership of the Club.

bullet

To foster cooperation and opportunities for working together among the civic and service groups in Shorewood.

bullet

To cooperate with other local agencies and groups in charity efforts and to support such special charities as may be approved by the Club.

  Section 2.                The Shorewood Men’s Club shall be non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political.

  ARTICLE III

MEMBERSHIP

Section 1.      Membership in the Club shall be limited to residents of the Village of Shorewood, faculty members of the Shorewood Schools, or those whose business in located in the Village of Shorewood.

 

Section 2.      An application for membership may be made through any member of the Club and submitted by that member to the Secretary who in turn shall submit it to the Chairman of the Membership Committee.  The application must include the recommendation of two additional members of the Club as indicated by their signatures.  The application for membership shall then be submitted by the Membership Chairman, together with his Committee’s recommendations, to the Board of Directors.  Candidates so recommended shall then be voted upon by the Board of Directors and the two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors present shall be required for acceptance.

  Section 3.    Any member may file written objections to the acceptance of any applicant with the Secretary, before the applicant is admitted to membership and state therein the reasons for his objections.  Thereafter at the regular meeting of the Board of Directors, a vote shall be taken on the application so objected to and an affirmative vote by ballot of two-thirds of the members present, shall be required to elect the applicant to membership.  After the application has been approved by the Board of Directors, the Secretary shall notify the applicant of his acceptance.

 

ARTICLE IV

OFFICERS

Section 1.     The officers of the Shorewood Men’s Club shall be:

TREASURER

SERGEANT AT ARMS

 

Section 2.     Terms for officers shall be for one year commencing July 1st.  Election shall be by ballot at the first meeting in June.

Section 3.     Nominations are to be made by a Nominating Committee to be appointed the last meeting in April and its report is to be presented at the last meeting in May.  At this time additional nominations may be made from the floor.

Section 4.     In the event of a vacancy among the elected officers, the Vice-President assumes the Presidency, all other vacancies to be filled by the Board of Directors.

 

Section 5.     BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

  A.                  The President shall be Chairman and the regular officers, together with six elected members and the immediate past President shall constitute the Board of Directors.  The officers and the immediate past President shall serve a tem of one year.  The term for all other members of the Board of Directors shall be for a period of three years.

                          B.                   Duties of the Board of Directors shall be:

    a.                    Approve applicants for membership.

b.                   Establish standing committees and review their activities at regular intervals.

c.                    Approve the budget.

d.                   Approve all bills.

e.                  Consider proposed projects and recommend to the Club those which seem most worthwhile.

 f.                   Carry on any other general business pertaining to organization.

C.                   The Board of Directors shall constitute the governing body of the Club.  The Board of Directors shall meet once each month at the call of the President.

 

D.                  Term in office of Board members who are unable to attend 60% or more of the Board meetings will be terminated.

 

E.                   In the event of a vacancy among the Board members, other than the elected officers, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the Board of Directors.

 

ARTICLE V

COMMITTEES

Section 1.                The standing committees of the Club shall be:

Section 2.     Special committees for specific tasks may be appointed by the President and approved by the Board of Directors as the need arises.

Section 3.      The President shall make all committee appointments.  Each standing committee shall consist of three or more members, on of whom shall be a member of the Board of Directors.

ARTICLE VI

DUTIES OF THE STANDING COMMITTEES

Section 1.       The Board of Directors, and through it, the Club members as a whole should be kept informed of committee activities.  It shall therefore be the responsibility of the chairman of each committee to submit to the Board of Directors a monthly statement of the activities of his committee during the preceding month.

ARTICLE VII

DISCIPLINE

Section 1.      Any member whose dues are not paid by October 1st shall be granted thirty days grace and shall be dropped from membership of payment is not received by November 1st.

Section 2.       The Board of Directors shall be responsible for the general discipline of the Club.

ARTICLE VIII

DUES

Section 1.      The annual dues shall be $15.00 per year payable in advance.  New members will pay dues for the balance of the year prorated on the basis of a ten-month year – July and August omitted.

Section 2.       The Board of Directors shall be responsible for the general discipline for the Club.

ARTICLE IX

MEETINGS

Section 1.      Meetings shall be held at 6:15 P.M. every Wednesday of each month or on such day or time as may be designated by the Club except the months of July and August.

Section 2.      The meeting place and time shall be announced in the weekly bulletin.

ARTICLE X

FINANCE

Section 1.     The business year of the Club shall begin on the first day of July each year.

                     The Club’s books of account shall be audited at least once each year as of June 1st, the auditors to be named by the Board of Directors.

ARTICLE XI

AMENDMENTS

Section 1.                These By Laws may be amended by two-thirds vote of those present at a regular meeting.  Any proposed amendment shall be published in the bulletin in two successive weeks immediately prior to a vote.

 

Section 2.                Robert’s Rules of Order shall be the authority for all procedure of the Club meeting.

  

 

DUTIES OF STANDING COMMITTEES

  Section 1.                Membership Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Membership Committee to concern itself with all applications for membership in the Club and to proceed with such applications as indicate din Article III, Section 2, of the Constitution.

 

B.                   It shall also be its responsibility to devise ways and means for promoting regular attendance of members at Club meetings.

 

      Section 2.                Reception Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Reception Committee to see that at least two of its members are present at the Club’s meeting place at least fifteen minutes prior to the dinner hour.  These members will be expected to act as official greeters welcoming new members and guests who may be present.

 

B.                   It shall also be its responsibility to be on the alert in welcoming speakers, in cooperating with the Program Chairman and in serving in the same capacity at Club parties and special events.

 

C.                   It shall also be their function to lend their individual support in the smooth operation of the weekly meetings.

 

  Section 3.                Sponsorship Committee

A.                  This committee shall be alert to any worthwhile activity which might qualify or merit the Club’s support and to give such activities its careful consideration.  It shall then be its responsibility to present an outline of the activity and its approximate cost to the Board of Directors for its consideration.

 

  Section 4.                Civic Affairs Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Civic Affairs Committee to keep the Club members informed on all phases of Village affairs, such as actions by the Village Board of Trustees; the Board of Education; the Board of Vocational and Adult Education.

 

  Section 5.                Program Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Program Committee to arrange a suitable program for each of the weekly meetings.

 

  Section 6.                Finance Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Finance Committee to propose ways and means of augmenting Club income if and when needed.

 

B.                   It shall be their responsibility to prepare an annual budget to be presented to the Board of Directors by January 1st of each year.

 

C.                   It shall also be its duty to study proposed unusual expenditures and to make its judgment known to the Board of Directors in the light of the wisdom of the expenditures and the current assets of the Club.

 

  Section 7.                Youth Work Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of the Youth Work Committee to give thought to ways and means by which Club members collectively and individually may contribute to the welfare of Shorewood youth.

 

B.                   Promotion of any youth activities which, immediately or ultimately, have as their goad the development of good citizens shall gall within the responsibilities of this committee.

 

 Section 8.                Entertainment Committee

A.                  It shall be the responsibility of this Committee to arrange for, and to have charge of, any and all special functions, such as picnics, holiday parties, baseball nights, which the Club may decide upon with the cooperation and coordination of the Program Committee.

 

  Section 9.                Advisory Committee

A.                  The past Presidents of this organization shall constitute the Advisory Committee 

B.                   It shall be its function to act as counselors to the current officers and the Board of Directors.

 

  Section 10.                Public Service Committee

A.                  This committee shall develop any service pertaining to our community.
