Jan. 29th to Feb. 17th  2007

 Dinner/Program

Jan. 29th  -  SMC Board Meeting – 7pm – Village Hall

President Hickman insists all board members attend.  Last meeting on November 27th was not well attended.  Preliminary Chicken BBQ issues will be taken up.  If any SMC members have any ideas on how we as a group can more easily achieve our 30 - person commitment to Hubbard Park Lodge, please attend this board meeting.

Jan. 31st – Fashion Show -  “What to Wear When and Why”

It is not a well kept secret that Joe Hughes is the best dressed SMC member.  When Joe attends a Wednesday night program/dinner the conversation always gravitates to his choice of tie, color of socks or style of cummerbund.  This is Joe.  This is what he does and he does it very well.  Mr. Hughes is putting together a fashion show to assist us, the unwashed, on how to look their best for all occasions.  Mark your calendars for this date as a must attend evening.  Joe has promised something for every taste level.   This is a soup, sandwich and beverage night, so bring that guest/potential new member.  You will need reservations so call 332-5999.

Feb. 7th – Mr. Robert Ricigliano – “Resolving Conflicts”

Recently back from Iraq , Mr. Ricigliano has some special insights into the civil strife in that country.  It is said his job is to “keep hope alive.”  He has worn many hats over the years such as:  presently a consultant with Triad Consulting, Director of Institute of World Affairs and the Peace Studies Program at UWM, former Executive Director of the Conflict Management Group and Associate Director of the Harvard Negotiation Project at Harvard Law School .  So, whether you have conflict in your life and are searching for resolution or just want to listen to a great speaker, call 332-5999 for your reservations.

Feb. 14th – Dinner at Hubbard Park Lodge

Why not have a St. Valentine’s Day party?   Answer: The expense.  With St. Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras coming so close on the calendar, the Special Events Committee decided to de-emphasize one and concentrate on the other.   It was decided to put the emphasis on Mardi Gras. There will be a rose for each woman in attendance.  You will need reservations so call 332-5999.

Feb. 17th (Saturday)  Community Blood Drive – Lower Level Shorewood Village Center

Know what an antigen is?  It is a kind of protein on the surface of red blood cells.  It is what distinguishes us from each other or makes us similar.  A, B AB and O antigens are the four types.  Thirty-seven percent of Americans have O+ while just 1% has AB- .  Regardless of what type blood you have, make a trek over to the Shorewood Library and donate some of that special red stuff.  Walk-ins are happily accepted though if you know in advance you can make it, call Jeff Hanewall at 964-9719 so he can put your name down for a special time slot.  Donating your blood is so important and so appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Webster’s Dictionary defines harp on as “to talk or write about to an excessive and tedious degree.”  Where are we going with this?  We are not making our 30 person per night requirement on Wednesday evenings.  On January 17th SMC had to pony up for ten meals at $17/meal or $170.  Ouch!!  Having more than 110 members this year should make it easier to meet this goal BUT sometimes we don’t make it.  Warning!  We may have to go back to the “harp on” e-mails to get to the 30 mark.  Please, don’t make Hanewall send the piercing, mind numbing annoying e-mail that beg you to attend.  Make attending once each month a habit.   Bring a friend.  Bring your wife.  Just call 332-5999 and make your reservation and be counted! Some have suggested kidnapping to make up the numbers.   The law firm of Ahlgren, Cotter, Dow, Goelz, Kremers, Pollen, Rivas, Rondini, Schmeckpeper, Schoewe, Spector and Associates reviewed this possible course of action and narrowly agreed(simple majority) that this would not be a good/ethical way of making the 30 person commitment.  Any ideas?

COOKIE ALERT!!     COOKIE ALERT!!!   COOKIE ALERT!!

Grace Kleaveland/Kupczak is selling Girl Scout Cookies.  Please give her a call at 906 – 4190 to put in your order.   Orders will be taken between January 11 and January 29th.  Don’t miss this opportunity to show your support for Girl Scouts!

We’re seeing more and more members wearing the officially sanctioned SMC sweatshirt.  A great addition to any rising star’s wardrobe.  Call Zemlicka at 964-2057 to order yours.
