CALENDAR DETAIL:

September 12 - Family Night
As always, our first meeting of the year will be at Hubbard Park Lodge, and all members - including their families and guests - are welcome for a complimentary picnic dinner.  In addition to the ice cream sundaes, we've got another treat planned this year in the form of some entertainment.  Please plan to attend, and think about bringing a friend who might be interested in joining.  We're always looking for new faces.

September 19 - Program Director from the Urban Ecology Center
Tonight we will not only hear about this wonderful facility, but the many programs it offers for children and adults.  If you're not familiar with the building, you might want to drive by it some day while you're out and about.  It's located at 1500 East Park Place on the Oak Leaf bike trail.  For more information, check out www.urbanecologycenter.org.

September 26 - Golf & Steak Night
For many of us "meat & potatoes" guys, this is a night to look forward to.  Add a great afternoon on the greens, and you've got a perfect day.  Breaking with tradition for a second year in a row (which I guess makes it its own tradition), spouses and friends are welcome for both golf and dinner.  We'll have more details as the date gets closer.

October 3 - TBD

October 10 - Cheryl Orgas & Bill Meeker
Cheryl and Bill will share their experiences getting around Shorewood and elsewhere as individuals with impaired vision.  This will be a great opportunity to put yourself in someone else's shoes to experience the other side of what many of us take for granted - our sight.

GRANTS GRANTED:

Over the summer, the SMC Board approved the following grant requests:
$660 to help sponsor Village Fourth of July Celebration
$250 to help sponsor the Shorewood Criterium
$500 to help sponsor the Catholic Family Golf fund raiser
$500 to help sponsor the National Nite Out event
$300 to help sponsor the Showcase Shorewood event
$5000 toward the Drive to Distinction (D2D) - see www.drivetodistinction.org
$400 to the North Shore Fire Department for educational DVDs

THANX:

There are too many folks to thank for all the hard work at the Chicken BBQ, our summer blood drive, the Fourth of July celebration, and National Nite Out.  Nonetheless, a special thank you to everyone who made all of those events successful.

NOTICES:

Membership forms will be mailed out in the next week or so.  Please take a moment and return them promptly.

We will again create a standing list at the first few meetings.  For those who may not know, the club must call in the number of required dinners each week, and this is done the Tuesday morning before the meeting.  If you know you will likely make most Wednesdays, then please sign up on the standing list and we will assume you are coming.  OTHERWISE, YOU MUST CALL IN EACH WEEK BEFORE TUESDAY TO RESERVE YOUR DINNER.  If you are on the standing list, and cannot make it, we also need you to call in to cancel your dinner.  The reservation number is 332-5999.  This is extremely important, because the club must pay for unused but ordered meals.  Similarly, we could be short a meal if you come to dinner without first reserving a dinner.

Bob Schumacher already has next year's Entertainment coupon books.  If interested in one, please see him.  He'll usually have some at the lodge.
