CALENDAR DETAIL:

March 12 – St Patrick’s Day Party

Mr. St. Patrick – Joe Hughes – is the real thing this year.  Joe was elected “Irishman of the Year” by the Shamrock  Club which meant that Joe and his family were carried by a horse drawn carriage in the St. Pat’s Day parade.  Congratulations to Joe.

As for this Wednesday, we will have our corned beef and cabbage for dinner followed by a presentation Barry Stapleton, the Director of the John J. Ward Irish Music Archives. The Archives contain over 30,000 pieces of Irish music and music related items including the second largest Bing Crosby collection in the country. Barry is very knowledgeable about both historic recordings and many of today's up and coming performers. He can also give us a preview of this year’s entertainment lineup at Irish Fest.

March 19 – no meeting

March 22 – SMC annual Easter Egg Hunt

The young swarm of “locusts” will again pick the field clean of Easter Eggs this Saturday starting at 9:00 at Hubbard Park.  If you can help, please contact Dan Kleaveland-Kupczak at 906-4190.  Setup will begin around 7:00.  If the weather does not cooperate, we will still hand out eggs to those who show up.

March 26 – no meeting

NOTICES:

Please welcome new member Charles Gary who lives on North Farwell .  Charles is a marketing dude, so when you meet him, maybe he can sell you something.  Welcome to the club, Gary.

Some of you many already know that Cathleen Ahlgren, the wife of former SMC president Steve Ahlgren has passed away.  Steve sent the following note to the club:

“Dear Friends at SMC,

What a nice surprise to hear that you had honored my family with a memorial for my wife.  Thank you all so very much.

This is a very difficult time for the boys (ages 13 & 12), and for me, but with the prayers and support from the community and old friends like you, we’ll begin to put some of the pieces back together.

Thank you again,

Steve, Joseph, and Jamie”

Again, our condolences to Steve and his family.

In April, you will be asked to vote on a referendum for the Shorewood School District .  Superintendent Blane McCann gave us an overview at last Wednesday’s meeting.  If you missed it, you can obtain information on the referendum at www.shorewoodschools.org or by contacting Blane or any of the school board members.  They will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
